Aveiro, Portugal
Being passionate about wine is nothing new to us, so we opened in November 2009, a venue dedicated (but not exclusively!) to this great passion of ours. Here you will find a variety of products and services, such as delicatessen, cold cuts and cheeses, wine tastings, food & wine harmonization services, etc.. Actually this store can be described as a concept store around what we do best in Portugal! Moreover, in the walls at the entrance you can read "experience Portugal", not only are we trying to incite our visitors to taste great portuguese products, but primarily to challenge those visitors to experiment more, to take more chances and let themselves be surprised in the process...

Real variety from Portugal - tasting notes

Abandonado 2007 Douro, 18 points, Drink 2012-20
Made from the property's oldest vines in a long-neglected vineyard being recuperated. (In 2003 they switched to picking and vinifying different lots separately.) Very pretty nose. Sweet yet fresh. Quite delicate. Herbal with a dry finish.

Quinta da Gaivosa 2005 Douro, 18 points, Drink 2010-20
Alves de Sousa does not make a Reserva at this property and released no single-vineyard wines at this point, so this is the finest 2005 produced here and it tastes like it. A field blend of 80-year-old vines yielding only 15-20 hl/ha. Spicy nose. Blossomy come-on. Quite rich and round and very aromatic with a satisfyingly dry finish.

Quinta da Gaivosa, Vinha de Lordelo 2007, Douro, 17.5+ points, Drink 2015-25
Centenarian vines that yield only 10 hl/ha from a field blend. Scented and floral (surely there is some Touriga Nacional here?). Silky textured and even a bit animal in flavour. So deceptive, it has tannins that make an appearance only at the very end. Intense tea-leaf nose and a neat, dry finish.

Alves de Sousa, Reserva Pessoal Branco 2004, Douro, 16.5 points Drink 2010-16
Very interesting and unusual wine. A field blend of old white varieties given 48-hour skin contact and then hyperoxygenation. Bottled 2006 and not released until 2010. Sweet, nutty nose, then extremely firm with admirable freshness even if a little astringency.

Vale da Raposa Touriga Nacional 2007, Douro, 16.5 points, Drink 2012-16
Quite firm with a blossomy nose. Sweet start and some cocoa notes. Very flattering but not as refreshing as its Quinta do Gaivosa stablemates.
